Statement from DOS, 12-1-2020

The Dean of Students has reviewed a screenshot of an offensive racial epithet which was incorrectly linked to a UCLA student on social media. We have no information to suggest that this person is a member of the UCLA community, despite what the screenshot suggests. Ethnic slurs and hateful insults violate our values. Anyone who encounters an incident of bias within the UCLA community is encouraged to please report it so that we can support you: UCLA Incident of BIAS Reporting Form.

Important Welcome from the Dean

Welcome to Fall 2020 at UCLA.

As you prepare to join our community virtually or in-person, we want to ensure that you are aware of COVID-19 safety requirements. Your commitment to, and understanding of these important factors is essential to minimizing risk, and maximizing care for all Bruins, while maintaining the standard of excellence that we always expect from one another.

Please note that in accordance with LA County Department of Public Health, students coming to campus must:

  1. Complete the daily symptom monitoring survey.
  2. Wear a face covering.
  3. Maintain at least six-feet distance from all persons.

Reports of student non-compliance with these measures should be directed to the departments below.

  • Student conduct occurring in University Housing:
  • On Campus Housing Dispatch (310) 206-9633
  • Student conduct occurring on/off campus and outside of University Housing (including conduct by student groups):
  • Office of Student Conduct (310) 825-3871 or dean@saonet.ucla.edu

Students and Student Groups that fail to adhere to COVID-19 health and safety mitigation measures may be subject to disciplinary action related to violations of University policies such as the UCLA Student Conduct Code.

Behavior that violates policy can include Failure to Comply, Disorderly Behavior, Conduct that Threatens Health or Safety; violations of these policies may result in suspension or dismissal from the University.

UCLA DA 900.01: Emergency Operations Center COVID-19 Protocols delegate authority to the Office of Student Conduct, in consultation with the appropriate University Officials, to review and address incidents of reported non-compliance as necessary.

It is vital that we keep the safety of self and others, whether or on or off-campus, at the forefront of our Bruin experience. While we may not share the same physical space, we can still embrace a deep commitment to overall health, well-being, and True Bruin success!

Please see UCLA COVID -19 and the Student GuideBook at https://www.studentaffairs.ucla.edu/guidebook for more information regarding our COVID-19 health and safety mitigation measures and support services available.
